A short field guide to using Flances. If something here doesn't answer your question, write to office@webtopro.com or use the feedback form.
Getting started
How do I sign in?
Sign in with your Google account. That's the only sign-in method right now — no separate password to remember.
How do I create my first tree?
After signing in, open Create a tree. Pick a surname, decide whether the tree is private (default) or public, and you're in. Your first person is automatically created — that's you.
How do I add relatives?
Open the tree, click any person, and use the relationship buttons (parent, partner, child, sibling). Each new person becomes a card you can edit later — birth date, photos, places, occupations, free-text bio.
Privacy and sharing
Who can see my tree?
By default — only you. A tree becomes visible to others only when you invite them by email or make the whole tree public.
What does "public" really mean?
A public tree appears on the landing page, in the explore feed, and in the social graph. Anyone — even visitors without a Flances account — can browse the people, their photos, and their connections. Make a tree public only if you've checked with the relatives whose information is in it.
What about photos?
Photos uploaded to a public tree are public. Photos in a private tree are visible only to invited members. Once a tree is published, treat its photos as published.
Account
How do I export my data?
Account export is being prepared. Until it ships, request a copy from office@webtopro.com and we'll send it within a few working days.
How do I delete my account?
Open your profile and use the "Delete account" action. It removes your account, the trees you own, the people in them, and the files you uploaded. Trees you contributed to but didn't own stay with their owner.
Can I un-publish a public tree?
Yes. Open the tree's settings and switch visibility back to private. Search engines may keep cached copies for some days after — we can't control that.
Trouble
I can't sign in.
Check that you're using the same Google account you signed up with. If the login still fails, write to office@webtopro.com with the date and rough time of the attempt.
Something is broken.
Send a short note via the feedback form with what you were doing and what went wrong. A screenshot helps a lot.
Someone added me to a tree without my consent.
Write to office@webtopro.com with the URL of the public tree (or the inviter's email if it's private). Removing a person from someone else's tree is something we handle case by case — see the privacy policy for how we balance the rights involved.
